# 3. Hot wallets: generate, fund, back up and sweep

Create a strategy wallet, fund it, back it up, and get your funds back out.

Every Surge strategy trades from its own hot wallet, not your main wallet. That keeps each strategy's funds separate and lets strategies sign their own trades without a wallet pop-up every time.

### What you'll learn

* How to generate hot wallets
* How backups and exports work
* How to fund a wallet with ADA and tokens
* How to send, sweep and safely remove wallets

### Generate a wallet

1. Open **Wallets** and click **Generate**.
2. Choose how many wallets to create and give them a label. You can hold up to 20.
3. Optionally, assign a strategy right away.

Surge creates a fresh Cardano key in your browser. There's no 24-word seed phrase. Each wallet is secured by a single private key, which is encrypted in this browser and backed up to your account.

### Fund a wallet

1. Open the wallet and click **Fund**.
2. Choose ADA and any tokens from your connected wallet.
3. Sign once in your wallet. The balance updates when the transaction confirms.

### Wallet actions

| Action | What it does                                                         |
| ------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Fund | Moves ADA and tokens from your connected wallet into the hot wallet |
| Send | Sends assets from the hot wallet to any address |
| Sweep | Pulls funds from your hot wallets back to your main wallet in one go |
| Export | Downloads your wallets as JSON or CSV |
| Import | Restores wallets from an exported file |

### What each wallet card shows

* Balance and tokens held
* How many strategies use the wallet
* Whether the wallet is backed up to your account

### Before you delete a wallet

* **Withdraw first.** Sweep or send its funds out before deleting.
* **Keep a copy.** Export your wallets and store the file somewhere safe.
* **It can't be undone.** If a wallet isn't backed up or exported, its assets are lost for good once deleted.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.surgecardano.com/tutorials/3.-hot-wallets-generate-fund-back-up-and-sweep.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
